Every church exists within a community. Yet a congregation can become so focused on its own activities that it gradually loses awareness of the people living beyond its walls.
This rarely happens intentionally. Most churches genuinely care about their communities. However, over time, routines develop, programs become established, and energy becomes concentrated on internal ministry only.
The result is that churches can become increasingly disconnected from the very people they are called to serve. Missional churches take a different approach.
They pay attention to their neighborhoods. They seek to understand local challenges. They build relationships with schools, businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders. They look for ways to demonstrate the love of Christ through service, compassion, and meaningful engagement.
Most importantly, they recognize that God is already at work in the community before they arrive.
Momentum Unfiltered was created to help church leaders think differently about their communities and their role within them. We will explore practical ways churches can engage their neighborhoods, build relationships, and participate in God’s mission.
Healthy churches do not simply gather people. They help transform communities.
