“When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.” (Nehemiah 1:4 NIV)
Before Nehemiah was a builder, he was a weeper. He let the news of Jerusalem’s broken walls sit on him. Only after grief came prayer. Only after prayer came planning. Only then came the walls.
If you are carrying brokenness about something in your church or community, that grief is not weakness. It is the soil where Spirit-led leadership grows. God does not waste tears poured out before Him.
Prayer
God of heaven, before You used Nehemiah, You let him weep. Teach us to grieve what You grieve. Then send us into the right work with the right heart. Amen.
